Performing Arts at CAM, in collaboration with Artlog.com, presents
Music & Art

curated by Konrad Kaczmarek

Music & Art is a concert series that highlights emerging new music ensembles and visual artists. Artists are invited to submit work through artlog.com that emulates the themes of the concerts and CAM exhibitions. Submitted work will be considered by the Museum curators for exhibition during the concert and in The Project Room for New Media. Emphasizing cross-genre chamber music and live electronics, the concerts will feature predominantly classically trained musicians whose work embraces both their
conventional and non-conventional musical backgrounds.

Redhooker and Build November 19, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Redhooker is a four-piece ensemble of violins, bass clarinet, guitar, and electronics. Its
music is intense and contemplative, rich with counterpoint, lush in timbral color and has been described by Pitchfork Media as, "fertile and gorgeous territory."

Build is a band of violin, cello, piano, bass, and drums that "straddles the increasingly
permeable line between chamber music and instrumental rock." (Time Out New York)
Their eponymous debut album on New Amsterdam Records released to wide acclaim
summer 2008.

NOW Ensemble & friends December 17, 2008 at 7:30 pm
NOW Ensemble re-defines chamber music for the 21st century, fusing "the formal elegance of chamber music with a pop-honed concision and rhythmic vitality." (Time
Out New York) The quintet of flute, clarinet, electric guitar, bass, and piano presents
newly-written works that were composed for their unique ensemble, demonstrating why Alex Ross of The New Yorker called them "a deft young group gaining attention."

William Brittelle - Mohair Time Warp January 17, 2009 at 7:30 pm
Composer/performer of audio-collage, abstract pop, elegant punk music. "Brittelle's
crafty, catchy music taps ino the best of what Frank Zappa's oeuvre has to offer, while his surrealist lyrics suggest a copy of Roget's Thesarus, the complete Allen Ginsberg, and a Taco Bell menu fed into Cuisinart. Factor in Brittelle's charisma, and the results are completely electrifying." (Time Out New York)
